The Salvation Army honors those who serve along side us in our war against poverty. This year we presented awards in 3 categories: Year-Round Volunteer of the Year, Seasonal Volunteer of the Year, and our new Red Shield Award. Our Red Shield Award is presented to local businesses or organizations that demonstrate a strong concern for their community through their partnership with The Salvation Army.

Our 2016 Award Winners

Seasonal Volunteer of the Year Award

Donnie Sue Johnson:
This year Donnie Sue organized all of our volunteer bellringers at our Foster's Supermarket Location in Evart, MI. She even rang some shifts herself! She also organized an end of the season volunteer reception that highlighted some of the volunteers that rang by drawing names to give away prizes she collected from local businesses.

Year-Round Volunteer of the Year Award

Charles Halladay:
As a volunteer, Charles helps with many programs including our After-school Community Center, Grow: Character Building nights, Donation Pick-Ups, Facility Maintenance, and as a bellringer he served over 150 hours in the cold to raise money for The Salvation Army. Charles is a big part of why we are able to help so many people.

Red Shield Award:

Johnson's Automotive Repair:
One way that local businesses can support The Salvation Army is by matching a Red Kettle during the bellringing season. Over the past 3 years, Johnson's has matched a red kettle. This year, they chose to match a red kettle on our busiest day of the year. At first we didn't know they were willing to do this. However, as we dropped in to collect their matching funds they surprised us with a check for the full amount of our largest kettle of the season. Johnson's has always support our efforts. We look forward to continuing our partnership in the years to come. >
